Assistant Principal Office Tour- Check-out my Space!

This summer starts my third year as an Assistant Principal in my building. Each summer I take a long hard look at how I can evolve my space to better support my students, while also making it a space I enjoy to enter as well. After the school day ends, I spend a lot of time in here working, collaborating, planning, meeting, and beyond! Our space at school becomes our home away from home as you know.

Check-out this quick two minute video of my space to see it all at a glance! See below:

Here are my favorite things about how I designed my space:

  • Leopard rug– So comfy, welcoming, and it screams my personality! On a side note, I have loved leopard print since I was a kid and it used to be the theme of my classroom when I was a teacher.
  • Couch from Ikea– Students, staff, and myself are drawn to sit here every single time! It’s a popular spot to sit for sure.
  • Standing to sitting desk converter– I have only had it for two weeks but it has already changed my life. I am so tall and sitting at my desk to work hurts my neck and totally messes with my posture. Having the ability to stand and work, while looking at eye level to my second monitor has already made it much more doable to get important work done. I also found a mat that I stand on to make it even more comfy on my knees and body.
  • Black push-pin bulletin board from Amazon– It is ginormous and such a great space to display so many things. I print pictures that capture some of my favorite moments with students and staff to highlight it there; Students are always looking at this to find their picture. I love it! I also display awesome moments of student growth or student goals below the pictures, too!
  • Movable standing desk– I roam around with this and my laptop during the school day when I can so I can get into classes while getting work done at the same time. When I am not using it, students or staff use it in my office as a side table to write and get work done. Multi-purposeful!
  • Student Sensory & Reflection Space– This space has it all– Fidgets, books, dice, timers, play-dough, papers to draw and color on and some other sheets with journal prompts that help guide through thinking. When students need a break, they know they can have access to these items to cool down before they return to class.
  • Instagram Frames with quotesWho doesn’t love a good quote? I know I am crazy about finding quotes that inspire and bring out the best in me and putting them all around me. I purchased these frames on Amazon three years ago and created graphic designs with my favorite quotes to show them off! Love, love, love!
  • My teal Keurig– Students who come into my office say that it is one of their favorite things in my space. It is adorable, cute, and packs a great punch of coffee. Plus, it takes up very little room and is super adorable! I had to get this coffee machine after I saw it in our school library and fell in love.

Hope you enjoyed the tour! That’s all for now, friends!
