Hi, I’m Dr. Kara Knight — a clinical social worker, therapist, writer, and forever explorer. I’m the founder of Knight & Light Therapy, a space for reflection, healing, and growth for those navigating the complexities of life, identity, neurodivergence, motherhood, trauma, and self-worth.
I believe healing is not a straight line — it’s messy, cyclical, and deeply personal. My work is rooted in compassion, curiosity, and the belief that each person holds powerful, unique strengths — even (and especially) in the places they feel most undone.
My background weaves together many roles: Therapist, clinical director, educator, school leader, and coach. My journey has shaped the way I hold space: less performance (still working on this), more presence. Less fixing, more witnessing.
I earned my Master’s Degree of Social Work (MSW/LMSW) from Saint Louis University and hold a Doctorate in Educational Leadership (Ed.D.), as well as degrees in Educational Administration and Elementary Education. These experiences remind me that we are all always becoming, and that learning — about ourselves and others — is our life’s work.
What started as a simple blog has grown into a space for connection and reflection — and along the way, I’ve had the honor of publishing two books.
- Unleash Talent: Bringing Out the Best in Yourself and the Learners You Serve
- The Confident School Leader: 7 Keys to Implementing Change
I’ve also presented nationally, including at the Learning & the Brain Conference (MIT & Harvard), and received honors like the Phi Alpha Social Work Honor Society (2023), Midwest Spotlight Educator (2017), and Outstanding Beginning Teacher in Missouri (2013).
But the work I’m most proud of is the quiet kind: helping others feel seen, heard, and held — whether through therapy, writing, or the small, steady practices of showing up with compassion.
This site began as a blog and is evolving into something more — a space where healing, insight, and softness live side by side. Whether you’re here to read, reflect, or peruse, I’m so glad you stopped by.
You don’t have to be fully healed to begin. Just start where you are — that’s always enough.
